Thank you, Mr. Sullivan, for hiring me as a teacher many years ago, for being a role model of what an effective principal should be and do, and for giving your life to help make schools the best they can be for children and staff! May God bless you always!

Mr. Sullivan,

Thank you for all of your years of dedication to the education of Georgia's children. I appreciate your welcoming nature to me as a new superintendent coming in from another RESA. Thank you for your positive nature that you have used in assisting each district to provide the best educational opportunity possible for our students. I wish you all the best in your retirement!

I first observed Gene Sullivan at a feedback session that GaDOE conducted after the initial release of TKES. I was not yet a director, and I remember thinking that his comments that day were insightful, obviously from someone who had “been there and done that” as an administrator, but most importantly, they were coming from someone who had the best interest of KIDS at the heart of what he did. Shortly thereafter, I had the opportunity to serve on CSRA RESA’s RESA Review. I was so impressed with the team he had built and all that CSRA RESA’s team was doing to support the schools and systems throughout their service area. Gene seemed like he cared so much about what they were doing, how they were doing it, but most of all, the people of CSRA RESA. When I became Metro RESA’s Director, I quickly found all of those things to be very true. Gene CARES so much. I will miss his knowledge and his sharp wit, but I will miss his big ol’ heart more than anything. Congratulations, Gene!

Leigh Ann Putman

Brenda Hodgin, Math Consultant, Retires

Brenda began teaching high school math immediately upon graduating from UGA in August 1970. Since then, she has spent countless hours working with math students in Jefferson, GA, as well as Columbia, Jenkins, Jasper, and McDuffie counties, and guiding and supporting students and teachers as an assistant principal at Thomson High School. Brenda even returned half-time to teach math at Thomson High School after retiring in 2002 as the assistant principal!

In February 2011, Brenda came to CSRA RESA to serve as a half-time Math Consultant, providing professional learning for math teachers, and has continued to serve the math teachers of the CSRA RESA for eight and a half years! Brenda loves her Math Team, shown above, and all the math teachers and coaches she has worked with.

Brenda is looking forward to spending more time in the mountains with her husband, Jay, son Scott and Mary Beth, and her three grandchildren, Jackson, Asher, and Tessa. We will miss your kind spirit and keen sense of preciseness and excellence, but wish you much happiness and excellent health!

Best wishes to our sincere, smart School Climate Specialist, Amber Phillips
It is with great sadness that I have to leave my position at RESA at the end of this academic year. As a military wife, I should be used to these transitions, but this one has been especially challenging because of all the wonderful people I have met in the CSRA. It has been a privilege to partner with the educators and leaders here; they have inspired me with their dedication to doing what is best for their students.
I have worked closely with the District Coordinators for PBIS and have enjoyed the collaboration at our team meetings. We believe in the prioritized work of school climate and supporting the social, health, emotional, behavioral, and academic needs of our students.

The challenge is to continue to work together in support of the whole student not just as a means to increase academic gains, but to prepare them for real life. In our own lives, relationships, and jobs, we all draw on these skills to build our resilience during the difficult times.

Treating students as whole human beings by identifying their strengths, teaching social and communication skills, healthy living, emotional and behavioral regulation, and academics will serve to prepare our students for their future.

I believe in our twelve outstanding districts and know they work tirelessly to support our students and fulfill this vision. Thank you for allowing me to participate in this important work; it has been a wonderful year!
